Tanner Myers

11 Years of Growth at Amazon

I joined Amazon in 2014 as a Customer Service Associate, helping customers with their Digital and Devices questions. From day one, I was driven by more than just solving tickets—I wanted to understand the bigger picture. I pushed myself to learn every system, took on additional responsibilities, and actively sought feedback to improve. That hunger to grow and contribute at a higher level defined my early years at Amazon.

By 2016, I'd earned a promotion to Team Manager, responsible for 60 associates with weekly 1-on-1s and performance reviews. This is where my technical journey truly began. While managing the day-to-day operations, I taught myself SQL and Excel after hours, diving into our metrics to uncover patterns nobody else was seeing. I started building reports that revealed the real story behind our performance—not just surface-level numbers, but actionable insights that drove change. Balancing leadership responsibilities with self-directed technical learning became my defining trait.

My SQL-powered tools reduced our monthly contact volume by 30,000, catching the attention of leadership. In 2018, I transitioned to Business Analyst, where I became the primary data strategist for a major initiative and achieved a 50% improvement in response rates through rigorous A/B testing and statistical analysis. By 2019, I'd moved into Data Engineering—designing and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers business intelligence across Amazon teams.

Today, after 11 years of growth at Amazon, I'm ready for my next challenge. I continue to push my boundaries—actively expanding into full-stack development with Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, GraphQL, and infrastructure as code with AWS CDK. Building this portfolio site is part of that journey. I bring the same dedication and hunger for learning to everything I do, and I'm excited to apply that mindset to new problems, new teams, and new opportunities where I can make an impact.

"I believe the best engineers are continuous learners who aren't afraid to venture outside their comfort zone. Whether it's optimizing a data pipeline or building a user interface, I'm driven by the challenge of creating solutions that work beautifully and scale reliably."
